Bryan Whitney IRIS SPACE:LIGHT at The Plaxall Gallery LIC

Bryan Whitney

I work in a variety of genres including photography, film and installation. I am obsessed with architecture, which is connected with ideas of time and space. Art historical references, materials and techniques are often incorporated into my work. Each new body of work continues to explore these ideas, although the form and the materials can shift significantly.

I embrace experimental techniques as they allow me to represent subjects in ways that are more abstract and thus perhaps closer to my perception of the world. I have used lens-less imaging, x-rays, 3d imaging and other methods to this end. I am currently working in the space between the still and moving image, and with images that take on sculptural qualities.
