REFLECTING BACK
SPACE:LIGHT
October 17 – November 17, 2019
The Plaxall Gallery, Long Island City, New York
An intimate view of three individuals that invites us to look past surface judgments of these personas.
My work is a study of personalities and environments reflecting, imitating and interpreting elements of everyday life based on society, political issues and place. Often these individuals share a narrative, while other subjects are captured in their natural environments. My images digest the posture of individuals while faces reflect their stories. These strangers are subjects in my continuing series of mixed media life-sized theatrical sculptures. All of these characters have stories to tell and a past that we cannot grasp from a momentary glance. I am particularly interested in body language, gesture and expression and how they relate to emotion and character. As viewers, we experience a commonality or empathy to these portraits that resonates with us. These pieces echo issues of isolation, disassociation and violation, vs. confidence, security, and contentment. This body of work is a socio/psycho study, bringing light to the attention seekers as well as society’s unseen.
