Created using the principals of Lumia composition with optically reactive materials that use ambient daylight and/or directional artificial light sources to illuminate the resulting images. As the viewer changes their point of view, the image reacts with a new and different variant. In one sense, these pieces reinforce the idea of art being in the eye of the beholder, on multiple simultaneous planes and perspectives.
George Stadnik – SQUIRKLE 01 & WALK IN THE FOREST AT NIGHT
‘The Art of Lumia’ has inspired my work since 1968. Creating opto-mechanical light boxes for 30+ years enabled my exploration of the infinite properties and creative possibilities of light. In 1998, my tools became digital. I began creating Lumia compositions using optical simulation software. Today I work with natural light and non-electrified means of creating movement. All my work is centered on meditative contemplation. The moving images you see are enhanced by your imagination and exist solely within the viewer. Light is natural, yet other worldly and open-ended. Light transforms the life experience in ambiguous ways, opening endless perceptual possibilities. Color is emotionally visceral. Time in motion is unlimited in its transformational variety. I hope my work will inspire and lift up a viewer into new realms of enlightenment.
